Output in the region fell to 24,483 metric tons between January and October: down from 36,435 metric tons from the previous year’s period, according to data from the National Surimi Manufacturers Association.
Total quantities of surimi and pollock imported to September 2009 also fell, with pollock dropping 35 percent and golden threadfin bream surimi 30 percent, indicated falling demand in the sector.
However, inventory amounts of frozen surimi were up in the period to 44,725 metric tons or 12 percent up on last year.
