Western media appears increasingly convinced the sun is about to set behind the mountains in the ‘Land of the Rising Sun,’ Japan.

A diminishing working population and huge increase in the number of middle-aged and elderly people has resulted in a stagnating economy.

This is a development that those exporting seafood to Japan -- the world’s second largest fish-consuming nation -- need to keep a close eye on.

Estimates are that within the next generation, or by 2055, Japan’s population will have dropped from 127 million to 90 million.
