Fishing industry sectors, recreational and environmental organizations, individuals, states, local government agencies and their employees are eligible for awards in six different categories. The deadline for nominations is Jan. 31.
“This is to acknowledge people and organizations working to provide leadership in sustainability,” Susan Buchanan, NOAA spokeswoman, told IntraFish.
The awards, which will be announced this spring, are designed to recognize people and organizations who promote strong leadership, impact on stewardship, ecological significance and long-term significance.
The six award categories include:
- Special Recognition Award: Honors an individual who has demonstrated a lifetime achievement in innovative management and outstanding leadership for the stewardship and sustainable use of living marine resources.
