The Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) on Tuesday announced the Russian Sea of Okhotsk pollock fishery received its certification to its standards as a sustainable and well-managed fishery.

The certification drive, spearheaded by the Pollock Catchers Association (PCA) -- which represents around 70 percent of the total pollock quota share in Russia's Far East -- was delayed for a range of reasons, including most notably, objections from the At-Sea Processors Association (APA), a group representing US pollock harvesters. APA argued the fishery missed several criteria for meeting the guidelines, including proper monitoring of bycatch.
