The saga linking the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) and the Alaska salmon sector drew to a close Jan. 10, when the fishery was officially awarded its certificate of sustainability from the MSC.

In 2015, after a months-long tit-for-tat battle between Alaska salmon processors over use of the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) eco-label, the Alaska Salmon Processors Association (ASPA) and major processors representing a majority of the production, represented by the Pacific Seafood Processors Association (PSPA), reached an agreement for the latter to formally take ownership of the MSC certification.
