The new longlines will hold small scallop seed produced in the hatchery in 2005 and 2004-year-class scallops currently growing at the floating facility in the sound. At harvest, each new longline has the capacity to hold 120,000 scallops, increasing the production potential of the farm by 2.4 million scallops, to 5.2 million scallops.
The company said its Baynes Sound farms can currently accommodate more than eight million "ear-hung" scallops and will increase capacity to more than 20 million scallops in the near future.
