Infectious salmon anemia (ISA) has been detected in three of the 16 cages belonging to Salmones Cupquelan – part of Cooke Aquaculture -- in its Ballena IV center in southern Aysen, Chile.

The regional director for Sernapesca, Cristian Hudson, told Radio Las Nieves, the presence of the ISA virus strain HPR3 had been found.

An estimated 600,000 salmon could be affected by the ISA virus, and they are already being harvested by the company.

The disease was detected after routine sampling by Sernapesca.
