By every outside appearance, India’s seafood industry is in the midst of a golden age. Over the past few decades it has grown from a mere whisper on the global stage to a production goliath – the world’s fourth-largest by volume, last year notching 6.1 million tons.
India’s seafood exporters have been growing their business at 12 percent annually over the past handful of years, hitting $1.85 billion (€1.26 billion) in 2007 – tiny by global standards, but a new record for India.
