There are apparent rumors in the industry that a disease ‘resembling’ early mortality syndrome (EMS) has appeared on Indian farms over the last two months.

“I have been hearing rumors through the grapevine that a disease that resembles EMS is becoming prevalent amongst Indian farms since the last two months,” wrote Daniel Gruenberg, CEO of Thai organic shrimp farm Acquestra in answer to a question on shrimp farmers’ discussion forum The Shrimp List, Sunday.

“I have hesitated to post anything to the list for the fear of spreading unnecessary panic but I think the issue is becoming large enough that it should be confronted in the open,” he wrote.
