A possible change to marketing fees assessed on the Norwegian seafood industry is sparking debate across the country, and dividing companies and associations.

Norwegian Minister of Fisheries Per Sandberg said he would reassess the marketing fee, which is used to finance the Norwegian Seafood Council (NSC), and at least one major Norwegian player wants dramatic action taken.

Last month, Marine Harvest, the fee’s most vigorous opponent, says it may lodge a complaint about the entire arrangement to the European Free Trade Association’s (EFTA) Surveillance Authority (ESA).
