Recent debate in the Northern Ireland assembly on an aid package for struggling fishermen heard powerful calls for the UK to leave the EU and take control of its own waters.
Jim Allister, MLA for North Antrim, said the fishing industry has been “taken for a ride” by the European Union (EU).
The difference between the “flourishing” fishing industry in 1973, when the United Kingdom joined the EU, and the situation in 2013, was “like day and night,” he said.
