Although the demand for crawfish on the continent is still extremely high, Irish fishermen say prices being received this year are the worst in living memory, as low as €20 ($27.10) to €22 ($29.80) a kg; and that these record low prices are having a huge effect on the viability of inshore vessels engaged in the fishery.
Up until recent times, fishermen received around €30 ($40.60) a kg, prices have been as high as €42 ($56.90) a kg at one time and because so few Crawfish are caught each trip, fishermen say they need at least €35 ($47.40)
