Short-term investments in technology and research could boost Ireland’s long-term offshore finfish production by 150,000 tons over the next few decades, for a first-sale increase of €500 million ($677.7 million), according to a new government report.

The benefits wouldn’t stop at the first sale. Such an explosive production hike would support an addition 4,500 downstream processing jobs, adding another €250 million ($338.9 million) to the mix, according to the report, produced jointly by the Irish Sea Fisheries Board (BIM) and the Marine Institute (MI).
