Jim Ianelli, stock assessment scientist for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), told IntraFish Wednesday that the past 2013 summer-fall season “looked good.”
“I’m hoping that this incoming year-class (fish hatched in 2008) persists since it means good conditions for the pollock stock and fishery,” Ianelli said following an informal presentation on the pollock surveys and assessment for the eastern Bering Sea.
Preliminary numbers for 2014 total allowable catch (TAC) were estimated at 1.247 million metric tons, but the final figures won't be determined until December.
