The British fishing industry has launched a drive to popularize hake among end consumers, and break the strong hold of the "big five" species that dominate supermarket shelves --  cod, haddock, salmon, tuna and shrimp.

The National Federation of Fishermen’s Organizations (NFFO) has teamed up with seafood chef Mitch Tonks to create hake recipes in order to stimulate demand for this whitefish.

New research from the NFF0 -- a representative body for fishermen in England, Wales and Northern Ireland -- has found hake to currently be the United Kingdom’s most sustainable fish.
