India's farmed shrimp production has stabilized in the last two years, according to Devi Seafoods' Sree Atluri, but government statistics show there is plenty of room for growth given strong demand.

Production was expected to drop in 2016, but as the end of the year approached, production improved and 2016 is predicted to see a 5 percent increase in shrimp output, year-on-year.

That could put overall production at over 450,000 metric tons for the 2016-2017 season, according to Indian government estimates.
