India’s aim is to become a major player in farming of marine fish and it's chosen to cooperate with Norway to ensure the venture gets off to a good start. This means increased opportunities for export of Norwegian expertise and aquaculture technology.

Lower salmon duty contributed

A memorandum of understanding was signed at AquaNor 2007 in Trondheim, Norway, by representatives from Innovation Norway and the Marine Products Development Authority (MPEDA), part of India’s ministry of trade.

It took the parties two to three years to finally achieve the agreement, which they say will contribute toward a rapid development of a sustainable marine farming industry in India.
