“There are always some storms that cause damage to fish farms each year,” insurance agent Reidar Andersen of Gjensidige Forsikring told IntraFish.
It will take a whole lot more before incidents and weather will have an effect on insurance premiums for the aquaculture industry, Andersen said.
“It is, of course, a costly business for those losing a fish farm facility. They will lose a lot of money,” he said.
The average fish farmer will end up paying somewhere between 20 percent and 25 percent the cost of every escape, shipwreck or damage to a fish farm facility.
