This quota is an addition to the quota set earlier this year. Instead of the normal route of increasing quota holders' fishing allocations on a proportional basis, the decision has been made for the state itself to lease this out, with any operator able to acquire up to 5,000 kilos of monkfish quota at a rate of ISK 120 (€0.65/$ 0.97) per kilo.
The additional quota is not transferable and can therefore not be traded on the open market in the same way as normal quotas.
