Icelandic salmon farmer Fjardalax sees ASC, GSI boosting growth

Icelandic farmed salmon producer Fjardalax has officially joined Global Salmon Initiative (GSI), bringing the current membership count to 18 companies.

Omar Gretarsson, Fjardalax’s marketing manager, said joining the GSI will contribute a lot towards the company’s goal of achieving Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) certification.

“It was our CEO who worked towards Fjardalax joining the GSI. There are a number of things we want to work towards,” he told IntraFish.

Gretarsson considers achieving ASC certification to be Fjardalax’s big target.

“We have the BAP certification and the IMO certification, so we need to add on to that,” he said.
