Icelandic Stofnfiskur is eying setting up base in Norway, as demand for year-round supply of salmon ova is rising.
“Three weeks ago we started to stroke our early ova that will be delivered to Norway in July. It’s extremely difficult to get salmon to spawn in spring and the only possibility is having the fish in land-based facilities and using our unique thermal resources for production in tanks on land,” Jonas Jonasson, managing director at the company, told IntraFish.
The company has done this for a number of years, he said.
