Icelandic Group on Wednesday appointed former Marel executive Larus Asgeirsson as its new CEO.

Asgeirsson replaces Brynjolfur Bjarnason, who took over as acting CEO after Finnbogi Baldvinsson tendered his resignation Sept. 7.

Asgeirsson “has extensive experience from the Icelandic and international business community,” Icelandic Group said.

Most of Asgeirsson's experience has been with Icelandic equipment manufacturer Marel. From 1991 to 2006, Asgeirsson worked as sales and marketing director at the seafood processing manufacturer Marel Iceland.

From 2006 to 2008, he worked as managing director of Scanvaegt International, a subsidiary of Marel in Denmark, before moving on to be corporate director of sales and member of the management board of Marel Food Systems from 2008 to 2009.
