Icelandic fishing and processing company Sildarvinnslan is preparing for this year’s summer mackerel and Atlanto-Scandian herring fishery. Temporary summer staff arrived for their first shifts at the Neskaupstadur factory this week and both the factory and the fishmeal plant are being prepared for the season.

One of Síldarvinnslan’s pelagic vessels, Börkur, has returned after maintenance at the shipyard in Akureyri and are scheduled to sail next week while the other pelagic vessel, Beitir, is still being squared away for the season to start at the end of June.
