Iceland’s Ministry of Fisheries announced an increase in the capelin quota for this season of 150,000 metric tons.

The initial quota for the winter season was set at 300,000 metric tons, which is always a starting point as research is carried out as the season unfolds, and the capelin migrate around Iceland.

Research vessel Árni Fridriksson has been on fishing grounds around the north and east of Iceland for the past few weeks and assessments of the strength of this season's migration are the basis of the ministry’s decision to increase the quota.

The
