Leading fishing firm HB Grandi said it was “clear that there is mackerel in huge amounts in waters all around Iceland,” while the Federation of Icelandic Fishing Vessel Owners described the situation as like an “epidemic” of fish.
“There’s an awful lot of mackerel around suddenly. Its very strange, in an absurd way its like an epidemic, because suddenly its all around the country and people are mackerel fishing from the harbor with rods,” Sigurdur Sverrisson, head of corporate communications at Federation of Icelandic Fishing Vessel Owners, told IntraFish.
