Iceland has published its cod-equivalent quota allocations for the 2008-2009 fishing season. The top 10 fishing companies will hold nearly 50 percent of the total quotas. The top five companies control 31 percent.
HB Grandi heads the list with 8.97 percent of the cod quotas -- worth around 22,000 tonnes.
Next up are Brim and Samherji -- with 16,000 and 15,000 tonnes respectively. They are followed by Grindavík-based companies Thorbjörn and Vísir.
Iceland's fishing fleet will also continue to dwindle. Just 709 vessels were given quotas for next season, compared to 767 in the year ending August 31.
