The NEAFC group of mackerel fishing countries -- made up of the European Union nations, Norway and the Faroe Islands -- regulates its mackerel catches with group-set quotas.

Iceland, is a member of the NEAFC, but not for mackerel, so it sets its own quota.

This has led to accusations of overfishing from one side, with Iceland defending its actions and the legality of its fishery.

"There is only one solution" to this heated issue, said DPPO's Christian Olesen. "We have to bring them in.
