Despite the threat of early mortality syndrome (EMS), the Honduran shrimp aquaculture industry has nabbed record high prices for its product, reported El Heraldo.

The price per pound of shrimp ranges between HNL 40 to 45 ($1.96 to $2.20/€1.50 to €1.69), an annual increase of between 50 to 60 percent from last year.

The website said this increase can be explained by strong competition generated by the presence of Mexican buyers in the domestic market, who have started stocking up on Honduran shrimp to meet the demand from the booming tourism industry.
