Last week, IntraFish reported a number of Norwegian herring exporters are sending herring to Russia on open billing and without agreed prices. Consquently, herring prices were sent plummeting.
IntraFish caught up with Storebo on Friday. In his opinion, a regrettable situation has emerged in the market for herring, but volume to Russia appears to be dropping back somewhat.
“Boats loaded with herring are still leaving for Russia, but volume is down somewhat. We must take steps to limit the market. It doesn’t appear to have had a negative effect that the herring are smaller, and that catches are deeper," Storebo said.
