It's homeowners versus fishermen in a Fox Island, Washington, fish feud that's no red herring.

In fact, herring are at the heart of the dispute that has triggered a lawsuit and a petition to the state Shorelines Hearings Board.

The conflict illustrates how the area south of Gig Harbor has changed. Once a fishing village, the community has become a haven for affluent, suburban commuters.
