Simon Lenger, a former owner and chief executive for Heiploeg parent company H.S.I. Group, took over the company's shellfish division, Heiploeg Shellfish, and changed the name to The Shellfish Group.
The division makes up more than €80 million ($98.3 million) in sales, according to sources.
The group focuses mainly on the sale of cockles, mussels, clams, oysters and squid, though it also deals in shrimp, lobster and other seafood.
The firm faces an uphill battle with its cockle harvesting sector in particular; the majority of the Dutch cockle beds were shut down to harvesting in 2004, forcing the division to seek foreign sources for product.
