The company’s total investment in the Vopnafjordur side of its operations is expected to reach ISK 4 billion (€22 million/$32 million), said Managing Director Eggert Gudmundsson.

The developments at the pelagic facility at Vopnafjordur began some years ago, when local company Tangi merger with HB Grandi.

Vopnafjordur’s proximity to herring, mackerel and blue whiting fishing grounds east of Iceland makes it an ideal location for a pelagic facility.

Work on the new fishmeal production factory is complete, and the next step is to renovate the existing pelagic processing factory with plans to install two new automatic herring filleters, which can be fitted with additional handling equipment to make them capable of handling mackerel for human consumption as well.
