Tilapia prices for fish over 500 grams climbed to as high as $1.80 (€1.2) per kilogram, as low temperatures in China -- the world’s largest producer -- hit production levels.
Demand then started to drop off and prices with it around May. As production started to pick up, the prices continued to fall.
"I think the key reason [for the price fall] -- if not the only one -- is that currently it is the peak season of tilapia aquaculture output and the previous high price had restrained the demand.
