If 2008 was the year the economic system collapsed, 2009 was the year most people felt the aftershocks. Company closures, layoffs, and bad tidings all around for many, while bailouts let many of those responsible for the fiscal folly that precipitated the meltdown get off with little more than a slap on the wrist.
