Pacific halibut fishermen are facing an 11.2 percent reduction in harvest this upcoming season, after the International Pacific Halibut Commission (IPHC) set the final 2014 Total Allowable Catch (TAC) at 27.515 million pounds on Friday.
Earlier advice from scientists called for a preliminary recommendation of a 21 percent reduction from 31 million pounds in 2013 to 24.4 million pounds for the halibut harvest this year, but after the week's deliberations and meetings in Seattle, the IPHC members approved a smaller reduction.
