Halibut fishermen have spent the last week meeting and debating the future of the fish and its dwindling stocks at the International Pacific Halibut Commission (IPHC) held in Seattle, but while many prepare themselves for another season of reductions in the total allowable catch (TAC) others remain optimistic about what's found at the end of their lines.
In the last decade the Pacific halibut stock has continued to shrink because of the decreasing size-at-age ratio, one seafood producer said.
"If we continue to take the largest fish out of the population we're minimizing the stock's genetic ability," he told IntraFish.
