More than 10.5 million pounds of halibut has been caught so far in Alaska this season, one-quarter of the 2010 total allowable catch (TAC), about the same as the 24 percent of the catch reported at this time in 2009.
Most of the halibut caught so far have come from the fishing area to the east of Kodiak, with nearly 7.7 million pounds, headed and gutted, pulled in byfishermen through Tuesday, according to National Marine Fisheries Service numbers provided by consulting firm Nickinovich & Associates.
