A total of 233.9 million kilograms of shrimp were shipped to the United States between Jan. 1 and June 30, a 0.1 percent drop from the first six months of 2008, when 236 million kilos arrived.
Value of the first-half shipments totaled $1.6 billion (1.1 billion), 3 percent lower than the $1.65 billion (€1.2 billion) in value for the 2008 deliveries, according to statistics released by the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS).
