A South African hake producer who supplies fillets to Walmart and Costco has landed a private-label deal to supply a US retailer with premium hake loins.
Oceanfresh Seafoods, which is backed by a London-based private equity firm, is also expanding into the foodservice sector and in Asia, its CEO Gavin van der Burgh said.
The new deal in the United States follows strong sales in the country, where it currently only supplies fillets under its own brands.
“We have seen significant increase in sales of our Oceanfresh branded hake fillets and will shortly be launching a premium hake loin with a large retailer in the US under their private label,” van der Burgh told IntraFish.
