While the political turmoil in Russia and Ukraine continues thousands of miles away, hake producers such as Jessie's Ilwaco Fish Co. are feeling its effects all the way around the world in the tiny corner of Southwest Washington state.

This June, the company will start producing approximately 3,000 metric tons of surimi blocks as it transitions away from headed, gutted and tailed (HGT) hake in the aftermath of the conflict, Jessie's President Don Alber told IntraFish during a tour of the facility last week.
