The Salmon and Trout Association (STA) is calling on the Scottish Government to tighten up its rules regarding sea lice levels on farmed salmon to bring them more in line with those in Norway.

Norway's Food Safety Authority levels fines against salmon farming companies whose farms demonstrate the sea lice presence over a particular thresholds.

"Scotland needs to besure that its regulatory regime is able to respond decisively like that in Norway, not only in terms of fines but also the transparency of sea-lice numbers,"  Guy Linley-Adams, solicitor for the STA Aquaculture Campaign said.
