Oct. 28 2002 - WorldCatch Wave - Protesters on Saturday handed out over 15,000 "Why You Shouldn't Eat Farmed Salmon" posters outside an estimated 250 UK supermarkets, including Safeway, Tesco and Sainsburys, in an organized protest against the salmon farming industry.

The Salmon Farm Protest Group, organizers of the demonstration, said in a press statement that it is planning another series of protests.

"I am overwhelmed by the level of support and want to thank all our friends for their help, " said Salmon Farm Protest Group chairman Bruce Sandison. "I believe this sends a clear message to supermarkets, salmon farmers, and to the Scottish Executive who promote this dirty business that the public may no longer consider farmed salmon safe to eat"
