The Magnuson-Stevens Act (MSA), the primary set of laws governing US fisheries, needs to be repaired “and the opportunity to fix what is broken and improve what has not worked well should not be missed,” Brian Rothschild, president and CEO of the Center for Sustainable Fisheries, told attendees during his keynote address at the Pacific Marine Expo show in Seattle on Wednesday.

The MSA is up for reauthorization in 2014, and Rothschild told attendees that in its current form the fisheries law as interpreted and implemented falls short of "our nation’s needs."
