Concerns continue to mount about the enormous quantity of pollock removed from the Bering Sea is starving pollock predators, such as depleted northern fur seals and endangered Steller sea lions, Greenpeace says.
The group visited the offices of the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC), a factory trawl vessel at the Fishermen’s Terminal, and ended their search at the offices of the At-sea Processors Association (APA).
The APA lobbies on behalf of factory trawlers that participate principally in the Alaska pollock and West Coast Pacific whiting fisheries -- and as such, Greenpeace says they bear much of the responsibility for the drastic declines in the Bering Sea pollock fishery, and the resulting declines of species that depend upon pollock.
