The Greenpeace siege of German flagged Maartje Theadora, owned by owned by Dutch pelagic and whitefish giant Parlevliet & Van der Plas (P&P), is to make an example of European Union overcapacity, a Greenpeace activist told IntraFish.

The NGO wants to draw attention to overcapacity in European Union fleets which have resulted in overfishing in some EU fish stocks, and are threatening sustainable fishing in West Africa's waters, the campaigner told IntraFish. The latest stunt involves two Greenpeace activists chaining themselves to German-flagged, 141 meter Maartje Theadora on a life raft, carrying a banner stating "Raped fish - Stolen Future."
