With the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT) set to review its position on bluefin tuna, successfully placing bluefin tuna as an endangered species at the CITES meeting in March 2010 is the only way of tackling the imminent collapse, Greenpeace told IntraFish.
With the WWF predicting a collapse in Atlantic bluefin tuna by 2012, action needs to happen before the ICCAT sets out its guidelines for the next few years in November 2010, the NGO said.
