Australia's supermarket chain Coles is reportedly breaching its new sustainable tuna policy, stocking shelves with private label cans of yellowfin tuna, a fish it acknowledged is overfished.
The supermarket's 2015 sustainable sourcing policy for private label canned tuna states it will "not source yellowfin, southern bluefin or bigeye tuna, all of which are overfished, or are in danger of being overfished," reported The Sydney Morning Herald.
However, a scan of Coles' canned tuna section by Fairfax Media found nearly a dozen home brand yellowfin tuna chunk products in a range of flavors and sizes.
