Warhover's watch has been one of tumultuous change in ownership and product development that has left Gloucester's signature company — and one of America's oldest continuous enterprises — still the dominant frozen seafood brand in the U.S. market.

Since 2001, Gorton's has been a subsidiary of Nippon Suisan USA Inc., the American division of the global seafood company, Tokyo-based Nippon Suisan Kaisha Ltd. Nissui, as the conglomerate is known, paid $175 million (€137 million) to Unilever, a European consumer products company, which had acquired Gorton's from General Mills in 1995.
