“You can’t be everything to everyone,” said Saw Earn Hai, CEO of Malaysian value-added seafood processor Golden Fresh. “We are not targeting the US market, which is generally a low margin, high volume type of market, we want to find a niche in value-added seafood processing.”
The value-added whitefish and shrimp producer, which recorded annual revenues of MYR 600 million (€148.8 million/$198.2 million) in 2011, counts the EU as one of its biggest markets.
Golden Fresh sells its Pacific West brand of value-added seafood to EU markets such as the United Kingdom, where it acquired seafood company Aqua Blue, and France, where it has a subsidiary office.
