GlobalGAP’s soon to launch consumer label is meant as a "building block" of wider seafood certification according to CEO Kristian Moeller. "We don’t want to compete, we want to complement,” Moeller told IntraFish.The label comes as a response to GlobalGAP’s member farms desire to have some marker of being " on the way to sustainability " and to connect with consumers, he said.With a baseline of food safety and good practice, GlobalGAP’s aquaculture farm certification has long differentiated itself from other certifications like Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) and Global Aquaculture Alliance’s (GAA) BAP and Moeller believes there is more room for the certifications to work side by side.GlobalGAP has already reached out to other groups to potentially partner on pack labeling -- the group already has an MOU in place with ASC and GAA --  and Moeller said he would be happy for GlobalGAP’s consumer label to run on the back of an ASC-labelled pack, for example."
